Everything in the app
Every feature, honestly described.
What each part of My Prof does, which plan it is on, and where it stops. If something is not on this page, the app does not do it.
01 · Classes & material
One space per class. Everything you add goes in it.
A class holds uploads; an upload holds whatever you have for one lecture or one topic — a recording, the slides, a chapter, a photo of the board, a paragraph you typed.
Every file is read on your Mac, into text with a position: a timestamp for audio, a page or slide number for documents. That position is what lets everything later point back to the source.
Classes with their own colour
FreeAdd a class with a name and an optional course code. Each gets a colour that follows it through the sidebar, the calendar and everything it generates, so you always know whose material you are looking at.
Uploads that take almost anything
FreeAudio and video recordings, PDFs, PowerPoint decks, photos and scans, plain text and Markdown. Drag files in or pick them; each shows its own progress through transcribing, reading, indexing and finishing, with a retry if one fails.
You can also type or paste material straight in, and tell the app what a file is — slides, textbook, handout, class notes, board photo — so notes treat it accordingly.
Read where it lives
FreeA PDF with its own text is read directly. A deck is read slide by slide. A scan or photo is read by macOS's own text recognition, the engine behind Live Text. Nothing is sent anywhere to be read.
Choose the pages that matter
FreeRead all of a document or just a range — slides 1 to 30, or pages 1 to 5 and 8 and 12 to 20. Page numbers stay the document's own, so a citation later means the page you would turn to.
Handwriting, equations, graphs and tables
ProA page that is mostly handwriting, a derivation, a chart or a table can be read with a model's help. You see the original page with the region boxed, an editable transcription and a second reading. Nothing from it is used in notes or search until you have checked it against the original and said so.
02 · In the lecture
Record it. Mark the moments you lose. That is all.
Your Mac listens, writes the transcript as the lecture happens, and keeps a note of every moment you tapped. Nothing to type during class.
The audio is transcribed on your own machine by a speech model that ships inside the app. It never leaves the computer, and by default the recording is deleted once the transcript exists.
Record audio
FreeStart recording from the upload. Record a lecture in several parts if you need to; each part keeps its own clock, transcript and pins. Recording keeps going while you add slides or look at another class, and a small bar with Pin and Stop follows you around the app.
Live transcription, on your Mac
FreeThe transcript starts appearing about half a minute in and keeps up as the lecture goes on. It is written by a model on your computer, so it works in a lecture hall with no signal.
Drop a pin when you're lost
FreeOne tap on Drop pin marks the moment. A pin reaches backwards as well as forwards — it covers the passage you missed, not just the second you realised — and it is scoped to the recording it belongs to.
Play it back, follow the words
FreeA player with a clickable transcript. The passage being played is highlighted and scrolls with the audio; click any line to jump there. Every pin has a button that takes you straight to its moment.
Permission, asked once
FreeBefore your first recording the app asks you to confirm you have permission to record the class. A lecture contains other people's voices, and that is your call to make, not the app's.
03 · After the lecture
The lecture, cleaned up and taught back.
Once the transcript exists, the Pro features go over it: mishearings fixed, the lecture summarised topic by topic, and every pin explained.
These are the parts that send text to a model, which is what Pro pays for. Everything above happens whether or not you ever upgrade.
Explanations for every pin
ProEach pinned passage is explained three ways: in plain words, then properly in the course's own terms, then the thing you were probably missing before it started. Key terms and a check-yourself question come with it. Equations render as equations.
Misheard words, corrected from context
FreePro reviewCorrected words are underlined; hover to see what was heard and why it changed, click to put it back. Free corrections use the app's own lexicon; Pro adds a model review pass that also marks off-topic chat and class logistics so they stay out of your study material.
What was taught
ProA topic-by-topic digest of the whole lecture, each point with a timestamp button that plays that part of the audio. Points reconstructed from context rather than said outright are marked, with the transcript's actual words a hover away.
What the lecturer announced
ProDeadlines, exam changes and readings mentioned in passing are pulled out of the transcript into their own list, each with a play button, so a date said at minute 47 does not vanish.
04 · Study material
Notes and tools that lead with what you marked.
Everything generated is built from your own material and weighted toward the moments you pinned. Each piece is saved, and stays readable for good.
Every generated page says what made it — the app on your computer, or an AI model from your material — and asks you to check it against your own notes.
Generated notes
FreeStructured notes for an upload, from the recording, the slides and the photos together. Before they are written you tick off a checklist of the sources going in, so nothing is missing and nothing unreviewed sneaks through. Print them, save them, or download them as text.
The notes carry a strip of the moments you marked; each chip jumps to the section that covers it, and a pin the notes do not cover says so.
Search the sources behind the notes
FreeFrom inside a set of notes, search the original slides and transcript they were built from and jump to the matching passages.
Flashcards
ProQuestion and answer cards from your own material. Moments you marked as confusing get their own cards.
Practice quiz
ProMixed multiple-choice and short-answer questions with worked explanations, of the kind your professor could plausibly set.
Study guide
ProThe concepts, how they connect, why each matters, and the mistakes people make with them.
Concept map
ProThe ideas as nodes and how they relate as edges, drawn from the course. Pinned concepts are flagged.
Exam cram sheet
ProOne dense page for the night before. It starts with the moments you marked as confusing, then the rest of what was taught.
Lecture notes with timestamps
ProA structured outline of one lecture where every point links back to the audio. Give any tool a focus — “just sampling” — and it narrows to that.
Yours to keep
FreeAnything Pro generated stays readable if you later go back to Free. Nothing you made is taken away.
05 · The assistant & Course Brain
An assistant that has actually read your course.
The Course Brain is the index the app builds from everything you add to a class, on your Mac, from day one. The assistant answers from it, and shows you where each answer came from.
It builds on the free plan too. Upgrading opens it; nothing has to be added again.
Ask it anything about the class
ProA saved conversation per class, or one for help with the app itself. Ask the question you did not ask in the lecture. It answers from your material and says so, with every claim cited to a source you can open — a slide, a page, a moment in the recording.
One class at a time, never mixed
ProEvidence comes only from the class you selected. A question about biology cannot be answered from your signals course by accident.
It proposes, you confirm
ProAsk for a study pack or an assignment brief and the assistant proposes the task first. Nothing runs, and nothing is spent, until you confirm it.
Search this class
ProSearch across every ready source in a class — every recording, deck, chapter and photo — and get passages with links to the page or timestamp. It runs against the index on your Mac, not over a network.
A knowledge base per class
ProAdd reference material that is not tied to one lecture — the syllabus, a rubric, the textbook — and mark what each file is. Archive what you no longer need without losing the original.
Told how you like things explained
ProSet the length, the language and whether you want the definition or the example first, for one class or as your default everywhere.
06 · Calendar & assignments
The term, on one calendar. No model needed.
Tell My Prof when each class meets and every session of the term appears. Upload a syllabus and every dated line becomes a deadline you can accept with one click.
All of this runs on your Mac and is free. It is also what the assistant reads when it needs to know what is due.
Week and month views
FreeEvery class's meetings and due dates in one grid, colour-coded by class. The view and the date live in the address, so back and forward work like you expect.
When this class meets
FreeFirst day of term, how many weeks, which days and times. The app puts the whole term on the calendar and tells you exactly what it added.
Syllabus date import
FreeSmarter on ProUpload the syllabus as a PDF or a photo and every dated line is read into a suggestion, with no model involved. Nothing counts until you accept it; ambiguous dates are refused rather than guessed. On Pro, clear dates and week numbers tied to your schedule are accepted for you.
Assignments by hand
FreeAdd a deadline in a line — “Problem set 3”, a date — edit it, remove it.
Assignment requirements, made plain
ProPick an assignment and get a brief of what it actually asks for. If your instructor has restricted AI use on it, the app says so and stops.
07 · Your control
Three settings, and all of them are about you.
The app's settings page has exactly three sections: how it looks, what leaves your computer, and what happens to recordings.
Everything else on this list either runs entirely on your Mac or needs your confirmation before it runs.
Online features: one switch
FreeTurn off sending anything to a model and everything on your Mac keeps working: recording, transcription, reading your files, offline corrections, the calendar. Pins are still saved, just not explained. The switch is checked before every single model call, not only when you press a button.
Recordings after transcription
FreeBy default a recording is deleted once its transcript, index and pins are done; the text stays. Turn on Keep recordings if you would rather hold on to them, or delete the ones you already have.
Light, dark, or your system
FreeSaved on this computer and applied before the first paint, so it never flashes the wrong one.
Works without a signal
FreeRecording, transcription, reading files, search, notes written on your computer, the calendar and assignments all work offline. Losing the connection mid-lecture never signs you out or downgrades you.
Delete anything, or everything
FreeDeleting an upload removes its sources and everything generated from them. Deleting a class takes its uploads with it. It is all files in one folder on your Mac, so deleting that folder removes every trace.
One account, every Mac
FreeSign up with an email address and a six-digit code. Your plan follows the account, not the computer, and a computer that has seen you sign in before can keep working when the server cannot be reached.
08 · What it won't do
The lines the app draws on purpose.
A study tool that pretends to be more than it is teaches you to trust it where you should not. These are the places My Prof stops.
It does not do your homework
The assistant will not write a submission, solve or grade an assignment, or hand over answers piece by piece. When an instructor has restricted AI use on a piece of work, the app shows that restriction and refuses.
It does not act on your behalf
The assistant can point you to the right screen and propose a task, but it cannot pick a file, upload, delete, change a setting or rewrite your notes itself. It never says something was done when it only offered a link.
It does not trust itself
Every generated page says who wrote it and asks you to check it. Machine readings of handwriting and diagrams are provisional until you confirm them, and a second reading agreeing with the first does not make either one right.
It does not keep score
There is no “38 of 50” counter anywhere. If you reach a monthly limit you are told at that moment, and everything that runs on your Mac keeps working regardless.
It is not a cloud service
Your material lives in one folder on your Mac and we hold no copy. That also means we cannot recover something you deleted — your own backups are the only route — and text already sent to a model is under that provider's policy, not ours.
It is not fully offline either
Explanations, the assistant and the study tools call a model, through My Prof's server. Turn online features off and those stop; everything else continues.
Free to start
Add one class tonight.
The free plan is the whole recording, transcription, reading and calendar half of the app, with no card and no trial that ends.
